    Although water may seem like an obvious supply to have handy, water is extremely important and shouldn't be overlooked. Not only is water used for drinking, it can be used for bathing, washing dishes, and cooking. It's a good idea to have a backup stock of water ready in your house and in an emergency bag to bring with you on the road if you're traveling during a storm.

    Have a cabinet filled with non-perishable goods such as granola bars, canned food items, pasta, and evaporated milk.
