SAYREVILLE — A wind-driven brush fire is threatening about a dozen homes according to the NJ Forest Fire Service.

The fire off Beth Anne Way  broke out after 2 p.m. and burned five to 10 acres of mixed pine forest.

A helicopter was being brought in, according to the NJFFS.

Sayreville police said that North Ernston Road between Main Street and Washington Road was closed to allow for fire crews to work.

The National Weather Service had warned of gusty winds of 25-35 mph and low relative humidity would create an elevated risk of brush fires on Friday.

New Jersey Fast Traffic reported a brush fire earlier on Friday in Secaucus at the toll plaza on the eastern spur of the New Jersey Turnpike.
