1 Man Killed, 1 Wounded in Newark Shooting

One man was killed and another was wounded when gunfire erupted on a Newark street.

Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn Murray says the shooting occurred around 12:30 p.m. Tuesday in the area of Plymouth Street and Isabella Avenue.

Both victims were taken to a hospital, where one man was pronounced dead a short time later. The wounded man was being treated for undisclosed injuries, and further details on his condition were not released.

Further details on the shooting, including what type of weapon was used and how many assailants may have been involved, were not disclosed. Authorities also declined to release the victims' names.

Murray says a motive for the shooting remains under investigation.
