The accident occurred at 1:19 a.m. Wednesday in the northbound lanes in Aberdeen.

State Police spokesman Trooper Jeff Flynn says 21-year-old Marc Senatore of Nutley was driving in the center lane when his SUV entered the right lane and hit the equipment. Flynn says the equipment struck the workers and a pickup truck.

Authorities pronounced 45-year-old Cesar Desouza-Caetano of North Bergen dead on the scene.

His co-worker, 60-year-old William Heise of Rockaway, and Senatore were taken to hospitals. The extent of their injuries is not known.

The crash remains under investigation.
