PLAINFIELD — A 25-year-old man was killed and two others were hospitalized with injuries following a shooting on Hillside Avenue Wednesday night.

According to the Union County Prosecutor's Office, responded to a report of gunfire at about 11 p.m. When police arrived at the location, they found Marcus Ellis and a 26-year-old male, both with gunshot wounds. The men were transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, where Ellis succumbed to his wounds around 11:45 p.m., the prosecutor's office said.

Authorities say while police were at the scene, they were notified that 30-year-old man had also been shot and drove himself to Muhlenberg Hospital's emergency room in Plainfield. He was later transported to Robert Wood Johnson for treatment.

The prosecutor's office said the two surviving victims suffered non-life-threatening injuries. No arrests have been made in the shooting, which is the eighth homicide in Plainfield since January.

The Union County Homicide Task Force, Plainfield Police Division, Union County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Unit, and Union County Police Department Ballistics Unit are continuing to investigate the shooting.
