A NJ Transit train carrying 400 passengers struck a car at a railroad crossing in Paterson Thursday, ABC 7 has reported.

The collision took place at about 7:30 p.m. at the 5th Avenue grade crossing in Paterson. According to ABC 7, train #1125 - which left Hoboken at 6:53 p.m. heading for Suffern - hit the vehicle at the crossing.

The driver sustained injuries and was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital. The extent of the victim's injuries are unknown.

NJ Transit issued several travel alerts for delays on the Main/Bergen/Port Jervis line as a result of the crash. Service was briefly suspended but later restored. NJ Transit provided bus service to the passengers aboard the impacted train, ABC 7 reports.
