Brick Township fire officials tell the Asbury Park Press that the fire started shortly before 8 p.m. Monday in the kitchen of a fourth-floor unit at the Chambers Bridge Residence complex. They say the resident there turned on the wrong burner on her stove and accidentally ignited some items.

A first-floor resident who had been safely evacuated from the building suffered a heart attack and died a short time later. But none of the displaced residents were injured.

Officials say the fire was extinguished within the hour and was contained within that apartment.
