PATERSON — One civilian sustained injuries in a police-involved shooting Saturday, authorities said.

According to the Passaic County Prosecutor's Office, the shooting took place at about 6 p.m. outside the Paterson Police Department, which is located on Broadway.

The prosecutor's office said in a statement Sunday that preliminary information indicates that a man was seen "acting erratically in the area outside the Paterson Police Department." An on-duty female officer responded to the area to investigate.

"During the encounter, the officer discharged a firearm and the individual sustained a gunshot wound to the abdominal region," the prosecutor said in a statement.

The man was taken to a local hospital where he continues to be treated for the injury, authorities said. The prosecutor said no arrests have been made.

Following the incident, the prosecutor's office Shooting Response Team was activated to investigate. The name of the civilian involved in the incident has not yet been released.
