NJ man had $1.2 million worth of cocaine and heroin, cops say

A Somerset County man was arrested on Dec. 18 after police discovered more than $1.2 million in narcotics during a raid of his home.

Charles Lewis, 42, of Warren was arrested following a narcotics investigation regarding the alleged distribution of cocaine by the suspect, Somerset County Prosecutor Geoffrey D. Soriano said in a press release Monday.

According to Soriano, on Dec. 18, members of the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Organized Crime and Narcotics Task Force, along with the Warren Township and Bound Brook Police Departments went to Lewis' residence to execute a search warrant as part o the investigation.

While searching the suspect's home, detectives located and seized 10 kilos of cocaine, two kilos or heroin as well as $291,147 in cash. The cocaine that was seized has an approximate street value of $1 million, while heroin has a street value of $200,000.

Lewis was charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance (cocaine) with intent to distribute and possession of CDS (heroin) with the intent to distribute. Borth are first degree crimes. He was also charged with second degree endangering the welfare of a child, and possession of drug paraphernalia, which is a disorderly persons offense.

Lewis is currently being detained in Somerset County Jail on $250,000 bail.
